Company continues strategic M&As, broadens technology expertise in Linux

Flander Releases Free Version of Fastest Test Automation Solution for Smartphones

Increasing complexity of smartphones and other embedded devices generates need for
easy-to-use test automation solutions

Helsinki, Finland and Beijing, China – September 14, 2009

– Flander, a leading provider of mobile software testing and development services, releases its test automation solution, A-Tool Basic to be available free of charge for the most common smartphone and embedded platforms.

Need for test automation in smartphones is increasing for several reasons. Smartphones are becoming more and more complicated with continuous need for improving performance. The number and size of applications is increasing. In addition, users expect error free operation as they have become more dependent on smartphones in their daily life.

Flander’s test automation solution, A-Tool, has been developed in-house over the last few years. The first version was launched for Symbian already in 2005. A wide variety of new features including A-Tool specific scripting language and support for different touch user interfaces has been added since the launch.

“All testing that can be performed manually can also be automated by A-Tool, as long as A-Tool supports the platform. The team of international students from Lappeenranta University wins Microsoft Imagine Cup Finnish semifinals

Flander employee Ehab Aboudaya and his team mates Mubeen Khan, Qianting Liu and Were Oyomno from Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) have won the Finnish semifinals and will be representing Finland at the Imagine Cup finals this year. The Imagine Cup 2009 worldwide finals will take place in Cairo, Egypt from July 3rd to the 7th, 2009. The team has also been invited to present its’ work to the Finnish President Tarja Halonen later this month.

The Microsoft Imagine Cup Imagine Cup is the world’s largest technical competition. In 2008 participants included over 350 000 students from 100 countries. This year’s theme, "Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems facing us today." was related to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Financially challenging market environment brings bigger need for Outsourced Software Testing Services

Flander and Nickom aim to provide testing expertise to Japanese companies related to software testing for embedded solutions. Japanese embedded product companies are putting more and more effort into foreign markets. As a result Flander’s understanding about the western markets can be a big benefit. Nickom is a new Flander partner in Japan. Flander participates in Quality Management & Testing Conference 6.-7.5.2009

Quality Management & Testing Conference  is the main forum for quality assurance in Finland. The annual two day event is arranged by Management Events and will held in Conference Hotel Rantapuisto in Helsinki. The conference  gathers together decision makers in QA and testing and the main topics include such as ensuring IT quality, agile testing and how to develop IT processes.

The program consist of keynote speeches, case presentations and workshops. Flander contributes to the program by providing a case study: Nokia Smart Home, presented by Toni Sormunen, Director Smart Home.

HELSINKI, Finland and STOCKHOLM, Sweden – December 16th 2008 - Software testing and development company Flander today announced that it has acquired Endevo, the Swedish expert company in Quality Assurance and Software Development. The combined company will become the Nordic leader in Quality Assurance and one of the leading development companies for embedded SW systems. Endevo has 100 professionals working in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. Through the acquisition, Flander will have 500 employees in Finland, Sweden and China and a turnover of 30 million euro in 2008.

Both Endevo and Flander are high-growth companies. They provide development, quality assurance, testing and validation services that enable industry and telecom customers to shorten product development cycles, save development costs by avoiding errors, and validate products for different markets.

Under the terms of acquisition, Flander will acquire 100 percent of Endevo stock. Initially, Endevo will continue operations as a separate company and be called Endevo, part of Flander Group. Flander Sweden’s Managing Director Sam Olnen will become the CEO of both Endevo and Flander Sweden.

Both Endevo and Flander are leaders in their fields, Flander especially in Symbian, S60, Linux and Qt environments and Endevo in test and measurement systems with LabVIEW. Both Flander’s and Endevo’s revenues have almost doubled during the last three years. Endevo is a Dagens Industri’s Gazelle company, while Flander is listed on the Deloitte Fast Track 50 list. Flander and Futuremark  to cooperate in mobile device performance testing

Software testing and development company Flander and performance benchmarking developer Futuremark have entered into a cooperation agreement. According to the agreement, Futuremark and Flander exchange tools for mobile device performance and functionality testing. Flander also provides Futuremark with services that help Futuremark and its clients to measure and analyse mobile device performance. Thereby, both companies can provide extended and more complete measurement and benchmarking for their customers.

Seppo Matikainen joins Flander after 27 years of success in the ICT sector

Flander has appointed Seppo Matikainen as the chairman of the board. Matikainen, 61, the recently retired Chief Executive Officer of WM-data/Logica, has been working in managing positions of ICT companies for over 27 years.

Matikainen started his career as an entrepreneur in the 1980s. The company grew organically and through acquisitions, and now WM-data has more than 2700 employees.

”Through his long career, Seppo Matikainen has a huge amount of experience and knowledge about how to grow IT service business profitably. I am confident that Flander will benefit significantly from this experience”, says Markus Suomi, CEO, Flander.

Internal campaign targets all organization levels

 During last Monday (12th of May) the Sichuan province in China was hit by an earthquake of 7.8-magnitude. The quake’s epicenter was only 100 km from Chengdu, where Flander is searching for a new office. The quake was noticed also in Beijing and some of the highest buildings, including Flander’s office, were evacuated.

In Sichuan and some of the neighboring provinces the quake caused tremendous disaster, especially among the local villages. So far the official number of the victims is estimated to be 71.000. The rescue activities have been handled in best possible manner, given the demanding circumstances. Many of the roads collapsed and the area suffered from heavy rains after the quake.
 
As in many catastrophes, children are the ones that suffer the most. As many of Flander’s workers are parents as well, this makes us feel highly sympathetic towards the families who are going through this crisis.

Flander is no longer just a Finnish company; almost half of its people are now in China, in steadily growing numbers. We express our deepest condolences for our employees in Flander China, hoping that all families can cope well with such a difficult time. We are also taking action by starting a 2-for-1 donation matching program in all offices, giving an opportunity for employees to give a helping hand.

All the donations will be sent to the Finnish Red Cross foundation among others, which are helping locally in the disaster areas.
